We just returned from our annual family beach trip, which included an extensive, week-long game of Pass the Baby. Here is my new niece Eva, who was met with lots of eager, open arms. Perhaps the most delighted pair belongs to Ella, who, having been surrounded by boys each year, finally can look forward to some girl time at the beach.

blowin' in the wind

A weekend with the cousins is always a great opportunity for photographs. Even better when it's at my parents' house, where there's room to run and the view is quite lovely. I had it all planned out for the girls, with new spring tees, cute skirts and fun hair accessories like this one (fashioned as part of the "collection of fancy things" we put together for my 2-year-old niece):

Unfortunately, when Saturday arrived it was 50 degrees and quite windy. There was no way we could pull off a happy photo session with chilly legs and skirts a-blowin' and fancy hair flying everywhere. We decided to cut our losses, let the girls keep their jeans on, and dash out for a 15-minute shoot. (My son, impervious to the cold, decided to buck the system and wear his shorts anyway. brrr.)

Oftentimes low expectations yield the best results. We let the kids run and play as they pleased, and in the end captured the fun of the day much better than I would have if I'd been trying to get the perfect shot.









Once again, lesson learned.
